Innerstellar’s Origin Story

kiki lovelace berkeley yoga.jpg

Hi. I’m Kiki Lovelace (she/they pronouns)…

... and I’m the Founder and Director of Education and at Innerstellar Pilates & Yoga Studio, which I opened on November 11, 2011, more than 10 years after I started teaching Pilates & yoga full-time.

Personally I discovered Pilates way back in 1999 or so, after a shoulder injury prevented my from going to dance class.

I stuck with it through my twenties as a source of support and healing as I navigated debilitating chronic low back pain.

And now, as a mid-life person who has birthed two babies and subsequently entered into perimenopause, I rely on it 2-3 times a week to keep me strong and comfortable in my chronic pain-prone body.

As a lifelong student of anti-racism and anti-oppression theory and practices as well as trauma-informed facilitation, it’s important to me that our beloved space on Adeline Street feels welcome, inclusive and accessible to our quite diverse student population, and I know our team members feel the same.

To that end, we are a women-, queer- and BIPOC-led wellness studio dedicated to helping East Bay folks with chronic pain and injuries build strength, release stress, and feel more comfortable in their bodies as they age.

We all LOVE what we do.

For many of us, it is our #1 passion to help our students better understand their body and nervous system, overcome their shame and perfectionist rackets, and build both physical and emotional strength and resilience.

Welcome to Innerstellar! We’re so glad you’re here.

Studio Location

ABOUT OUR SPACE:

We’re in a ground-floor, ADA-compliant commercial building located in South Berkeley at 2800 Adeline Street (cross streeet Stuart Street) across from Walgreens and Berkeley Bowl, four blocks from the Ashby BART Station and steps from several city bus stops.

A few notes about our space:

  • Our studio is spacious and breezy with high ceilings, soft paint colors and lots of room to stretch out.

  • We run air filters almost constantly and have special HEPA filters on our HVAC systems.

  • We attempt to keep our studio fragrance-free, although we can not unfortunately guarantee our public space will be 100% without chemical fragrances.

  • Reformer and yoga class sizes are limited to 8 students to ensure everyone gets ample attention and care from our team of experts.

We’d love to hear from you!

Email or call us at (510) 649-1976 to get answers to your questions or set up a visit with one of our Client Concierge Team Members to check out the space and vibe.

ABOUT Parking:

There is no dedicated parking lot, but there is ample street parking available along Adeline Street as well as in the neighborhood surrounding the studio.

A word to the wise: check the signs for street cleaning days and times before you leave your car.
