January 2020
Dearest Innerstellar Student,
Happy New Year to you!
I’ve spent these last several days in deep reflection on how much my life has changed in this last decade, and what’s possible for the next one, and I’m brimming with excitement (mixed with terror, as always, lol) for what’s to come!
As many of you know or have intuited, this past year at Innerstellar has been one with big, sweeping changes for our organization.
In the spring of 2018, a new state law was passed that required us to change from a contractor model to an employee-one, and being the trailblazer that I am, I went for it in November of 2018, after a summer and autumn of researching and preparing financially.
Going overnight from 5 employees to 27 has been a tremendous investment for me and my family in this past year, both financially and energetically. My rockstar administrative team and I, including Marisa, Audrey, Holly Rhea, Kate, Holly, and Aali, spent 2019 in a HUGE learning curve, upping our game as leaders, creators and team members in every single way.
It’s been quite a ride, and in many ways, it feels like we’re just getting started.
As a small business owner, one of the things that keeps me up at night in the most expensive real estate market in the country (world?!?) is an ongoing inquiry of how can I continue to support my INCREDIBLE team of teachers in terms of both their pay rates and benefits.
Now, as their employer, I feel an even bigger pull to do what’s needed to help preserve and protect their vocation as movement and healing experts, and their long term ability to “make it” here in the Bay Area, as well as the longevity of the studio itself.
To that end, we are raising our rates as of February 1st, for both our membership options and drop-in/10 class packs.
I invite you to stock up on your favorite class pass.
I want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting this small business and all the others in our beloved region.
We’re committed to keeping Berkeley weird via our highly specialized and healing brand of Pilates and yoga, and we are so grateful to have you co-create with us this community of seekers, empaths, anatomy nerds, artists, activists and odd-balls.
I’m wishing you and your loved ones a decade of more ease, joy, action, and freedom.
Love and shimmies,
Kiki
