Megan’s journey with low back pain
Innerstellar Pilates teacher and movement expert Megan Fenske has struggled with low back pain on and off since she was twelve years old.
At twelve, she fell off a rope swing and landed on a log - hard. The x-rays showed that no bones were broken, but the pain was quite severe.
Initially, Megan did a lot of PT, and her young body bounced back quickly.
But when Megan was in her twenties, the pain showed up again. She was working a catering job, which involved long hours on her feet lifting and carrying heavy objects. One day at work, she picked up a heavy box, twisted her torso, and felt searing pain that left her unable to move.
This time, Megan’s healing journey took more time and attention.
Over time, Megan found that her overall self-care habits, including sleep, nutrition, and emotional wellness, had a major impact on her pain levels.
And of course, she turned to Pilates. She learned to gently build strength and mobility, which gave her body resilience to the figurative and LITERAL twists and turns of life.
As Megan has continued to dial in her own personal recipe for wellness, her pain episodes have decreased in frequency and severity - and it’s been a few years since she’s had one at all.
Megan is thrilled to share what she’s learned about healing back pain through her personal experience, her one-on-one work with Pilates clients, and her continuing studies (Megan is a bit of a science nerd and likes to read meta-studies on exercise science and pain management for fun!).
Join her for Pilates for Low Back Pain, a specialized 8-week series online via Zoom. We start in February.
