Keep Your Feet on the Ground
By Lila Heller
We are negatively biased. It’s a part of being human. We are told to reach outward for our happiness and our sense of worth. That we really aren’t doing enough, being enough, or are good enough. You know this trap. It goes round and round until we consciously choose to interrupt the dialogue.
Simple enough.
Right.
Wrong.
So challenging!
Start small.
Applaud your successes.
Just a moment of pause, recognition of your accomplishments makes a huge difference in the long run.
Apply this positive interruption to movement. Remember your body is listening to what you are saying. Catch yourself. When you intentionally eat a healthy meal or make it to a class. Acknowledge yourself for your efforts, “Look at me. I’m taking care of myself.” When you carve out ten minutes to do some breathing or move your body, pause and tell yourself, “Thank you for taking care of me.”
Like anything new this type of positive reinforcement towards change will feel strange or cheesy at first. Do it anyways. You won’t know till you try.
Baby steps.
Always.
In my upcoming workshop look forward to sharing short and effective exercises to lovingly and simply take care of yourselves.
