What Kiki’s current Pilates practice looks like...

“Before I started having kids my body was super high-functioning. I had healed from the chronic back pain of my twenties and was feeling really strong and balanced. But this past decade of pregnancy and child-rearing (followed swiftly by symptoms of perimenopause) has required a whole new approach.

It's been humbling and also very nourishing to be required to slow down and take it easy as a way of being respectful to my aging process.

When Innerstellar re-opened in-person after our 16-month closure, I was dealing with shoulder instability and neck pain due to mothering a Little One who likes to snuggle on my shoulder every night at bedtime.

So when we re-opened, I started taking one-on-one Pilates sessions with Chloe as well as regular Reformer classes.

Since then, my neck pain has diminished substantially. My shoulders feel stronger and more mobile. I'm accessing my core in a way I haven't since I got pregnant with my firstborn almost ten years ago.

Also, I feel I am honoring my aging process rather than trying to defeat it or overcome it or or ‘get my body back’ and that is good medicine for my soul.”

-Kiki Lovelace, Innerstellar’s Owner & Director of Education

Though Kiki is a highly skilled healer herself, it took the support and accountability of working with a teacher to start feeling better in her body post-shut-down.

She worked one-on-one with Chloe to find new ways to strengthen her body while respecting the natural aging process, rather than working against it.

And though she sometimes experiences frustration that her body doesn’t bounce back as quickly as it once did, Kiki says, “If I surrender to trusting the process, I always feel better after a Reformer class.”

Kiki is maintaining her progress by taking twice-weekly Reformer classes at Innerstellar.
